FAQs

What will it cost?
The charge for 11 Plus tuition is £30 per hour. This cost covers all materials and any practice papers used in the sessions.
What kind of improvement can I expect?

Your child will become more confident in their attitude to the 11 Plus itself of course, as their capabilities develop. The work we do on increasing vocabulary, times tables, arithmetic and general problem solving techniques invariably manifests itself in better classroom results.
How many sessions will my child need?

Nobody can give an answer to that question without spending some time with your child to analyse their current performance. If you would like an initial assessment for your child that will give a much better idea of what is likely to be required, then please get in touch.
Notwithstanding the above caveats, one session a week is normally ample. Once a child has made all the improvements that can be reasonably expected, it is wise to stop, regardless of the date. In the run-up to the actual exam itself skills can always be topped up with occasional refresher sessions, or by using appropriate practice papers with or without my help. It is vital to avoid applying undue pressure on your child by trying to force the pace of progress beyond that which they are comfortable with. I will always advise a break or reduced schedule if I feel this becoming a danger.

How soon will I notice a difference?
It usually takes about a month to show noticeably better results. Once they have embarked on a course of study with goals they can clearly understand, most children are keen to apply themselves and succeed. Improvements then follow naturally as they can see the progress they are making.

When is the best time to start?
A lot of parents begin considering tutoring around September or January of Year 5. Again, there is no answer that will suit every family, but it is useful to get an idea of your child’s needs sooner rather than later so you can plan accordingly.I’m sure you will have many more questions than the few I have tried to answer above; please don’t hesitate to get in touch if that is the case: I shall be delighted to help in whatever way I can.
